10/27/2007    Week 9      Greene  20   Unatego  35

The Greene football team for the second year in a row  made  it to the first round of the playoffs for Class C Section IV in NYS.  The Trojans were a 4 seed playing the number 1 seed ,Unatego Spartans, undefeated and ranked #6 in the State. Needless to say , Coach Tim Paske emphasized to the players all week that execution and focus were crucial for their success.
Greene lost the coin toss and elected to receive. They started on the 27 yard line  and 11 plays later after moving the ball to the Unatego 36 yard line had a 4th and 21. They  were penalized twice during the drive but continued to overcome the  errors and were in position to score. The original call was to punt but Coaches Tim and Jeff Paske  called time out to discuss. They decided to take a shot at the first down and called a reverse pass. This  was a play that they had practiced for a few weeks but never felt they had the right time and place to use it , well,  Saturday afternoon at Ty Cobb Stadium was the time and it worked to perfection.  Nate Whittaker handed the ball to Jake Wentlent and he gave it to Justin Van Wert coming the other way and Justin threw a strike to Ben Adams on the two yard line where he side stepped a defender and scored. Greene lead 6-0.  Unatego  was shocked  and momentum certainly was in Greene's favor.
When the Trojans squib kicked the kick off, Unatego grabbed the ball in mid air and returned to the 45 yard line.
QB Kyle Palmer hit TE Chet Davis for a first down on a third down play and Alex Hendrickson ran down to the 7 yard line on another 3rd down play where FB Kyle Ritchko took it in the end zone to tie the score . The PAT was good and Unatego lead 7-6 and never gave up the lead again.
Greene continued to fight back and Garrett Hickey ran a fake punt for 22 yards and a first down , but the Greene drive stalled . In the first half , the Trojans got down to the  11 yard line and 2 passes fell incomplete and another pass  was dropped in the end zone on another possession.  A Trojans  victory was not meant to be. Unatego made first downs twice in 4th down situations and  3 times with 3rd and long.  They made the plays in key situations and Greene could not.
The Trojans never gave up . Lead by touchdown passes from Nate Whittaker for 9 yards to Justin Van Wert and a 33 yard touchdown pass to Dan Carlin and Nate's run for an extra point , Greene got  within 15 but did not have enough time to close the gap further.  The team played with a great deal of heart throughout the year and should be very proud of their accomplishments. Their only losses  were to playoff teams and 3 of the losses to teams that are in the Section IV championship. Congratulations to a group of young men and their coaches who played highly competitive football  for nine weeks and were well respected in the Section.

The Junior Varsity Football Trojans beat Seton 30-6 on Monday and completed a perfect  9-0 undefeated season.
Congratulations  to Coaches Gorton and Eggleston and the 22 young student-athletes who worked together to accomplish this task.  Every player had a role within this team and performed  with desire, determination  and heart. There  is a good nucleus of young men coming to the Varsity in future years to help bring similar results at that level. Tremendous  accomplishments.   Congratulations!

                                        GO TROJANS !

10/19/2007    Week 8    Greene  34    Tioga 8

The Greene  Football Trojans fell behind 8-0 and then came back and scored 34 unanswered points for a 34-8 win Friday night at home against Tioga.  The win assured the Trojans of a playoff berth  against the #1 seed undefeated Unatego Spartans next Saturday October 27 at Ty Cobb field in Endicott at 3:00 pm.  What a tremendous opportunity for the Trojans to play a team of this caliber which  will probably be ranked #6 or above in the New York State rankings.
The Trojans scored 5 touchdowns, led by Jake Wentlent who had two , one for 20 yards and one for 67 yards. Jake's performance in the quagmire at Raymond Field was  a pleasure to watch. He ran under , through and over almost every Tioga defender to score the two touchdowns.  Jake seems to be getting better each week. Nate Whittaker threw for a TD to Ben Adams, ran for a 5 yard TD and  ran  for an extra point to lead  us to victory.   On senior night at Greene, those 9 individuals played the best they have all year and excelled in leadership. Three  year starter D.J. Beckwith performed exceptionally well on both sides of the ball. Chris Engler scored, tackled and blocked to perfection.  Justin Van Wert, played his usual outstanding game, tackling , catching punts and blocking with authority. Ben Adams , caught a TD pass and blocked well down field.  Robert Sigona made some key tackles on defense and Chris Stagaman-Mundy , Alec Grabowski and Jim Bogart played in the mud filled trenches  with precision and desire. What a great night for the Seniors and the entire team.  The weather did not dampen the spirits of the parents, students and alumni. The home crowd was loud and supportive and the coaching staff and players  were  appreciative .  Now, Next week - BEAT UNATEGO!
                                          GO TROJANS!

10/12/2007  Week 7        Greene 14  Lansing   22

The Greene Trojans  game with Lansing started as a defensive battle. Each team had 3 possessions in the first quarter with only 2 first downs allowed.  Greene forced a Lansing fumble on a punt  gaining possession on the Lansing 35 yard line. After Nate Whittaker completed a pass to Ben Adams  for 13 yards , Nate hit Justin Van Wert for a 14 yard TD pass  for a 6-0 lead. The PAT pass fell incomplete.  Lansing than took the kick-off on the 20 yard line and marched 80 yards in 14 plays with Vince Redmond scoring from 4 yards out and their kicked PAT was good for a Lansing 7-6 lead which remained that score at half.
The Trojans took the second half kick -off  getting one first down and then punted. Greene playing outstanding defense forced  Lansing to punt on their 4th play. On the return,  Greene fumbled the ball and Lansing took over on  Greene's 47 yard line. After completing a 20 yard pass and QB Redmond running for an additional 15 yards , FB Colden Knapp ran for a touchdown  from 7 yards out. The  PAT pass was good in the corner of the endzone and Lansing lead 15-6. At the start of the 4th quarter, after being assisted by a face mask penalty and some nicely thrown completions Lansing scored with 10:15 left in the game for a  22-6 lead.  Greene continued to rally and fight back  with 57 yard drive on 9 plays with Nate Whittaker running it in from 4 yards and hitting  Justin Van Wert with  an extra point pass to make the score 22-14 with 5:34 left in the game.  The Trojans got the ball back but could not score and the outcome stayed the same.
The team is playing with  outstanding effort and determination but have hurt themselves with some penalties and turnovers in crucial situations.  They must continue  to keep focused through the entire game and perform consistently  and the wins will come.
The last game of the year before the play-offs is this Friday at home.  The Trojans must beat Tioga to make the 4th spot for the play-offs. Both teams are tied with a 3-3 record in the Division. The winner makes the play-offs and will play Unatego in the first round  @ U-E on the weekend of October 26th.  Our team and coaching staff will work hard to prepare and your support would be greatly appreciated.  See you Friday for Homecoming and Senior Night.                               GO TROJANS!

10/06/2007   Week 6     Greene 18    Trumansburg 24  (OT)

The Greene Trojans came back after being down 18-6 with 8:39 left in the game to tie T'Burg at 18 and send the game into overtime.  Greene was stopped  from scoring in OT from the 20 yard line and T'Burg scored from one yard out on their 4th play to win the game 24-18.
It was a defensive game for most of the first half with T'Burg  QB  Ben Robertson scoring on a QB keep  from 23 yards out after T'Burg stopped  Greene near the 50 yard line on 4th down with 8 minutes left in the half . Garrett Hickey on a halfback pass hit Justin Van Wert for a touchdown from 14 yards out to tie the score.  Justin's catch was featured on Channel 12 TV as the second best play of the night for HS athletes in the Southern Teir. Justin  jumped high over 2 T'burg players to catch the ball dragging his right foot in the endzone  after getting hit hard by  the two T'Burg defenders. It was an outstanding  play.
T'Burg scored again before half when running back Justin Stranger fumbled a pitch , picked the ball up and rambled 57 yards down to the 5 yard line. T'Burg scored from 4 yards out to make it 12-6 at half.
T'Burg scored with 8:39 left in the game and Luke Messier stopped QB Robertson on the one yard line for the extra point. Greene scored twice in the next 4 minutes with Nate Whittaker running 55 yards for one score.  On our next possession Nate hit Justin Van Wert on a 23 yard completion and Ben Adams on a 21 yard completion to allow Nate to run it in from the one yard line for our third  TD.  We missed a 2 point try with an errant pass  after the 55 yard run and our extra point try by Jason Hollings was blocked to force an overtime.  During the 4th quarter , we stopped T'burg twice on 4th down attempts to keep the score tied.
In overtime we loss the coin toss and went on offense first , T'burg came up  big on two running plays with outstanding efforts and we missed two passes which prevented us from scoring . On their possession from the 20, they  scored on a  1 yard run  to win 24-18.
The entire team was mentally and physically drained after coming back  being down 12 points to tie, stopping T'Burg from scoring in regulation and then the effort in overtime. Tyler Kehl and Jake Wentlent were again outstanding and Nate Whittaker probably had his best performance of the year.  The game truely could have gone either way.
Next game is Friday @ Home vs. Lansing , 4-1 in the league and a strong play-off contender who was ranked #8 in the State before Friday night's loss to Unatego.  The Trojans are still in the hunt for the play-offs and currently hold the 4th spot.
                                   GO TROJANS!

9/28/2007     Week 5      Greene  44    Watkins Glen  0

The Trojans' record climbed to 4-1 and 3-1 in the division with a 44-0 win at Watkins Glen. The Trojans recovered the opening kickoff on the 45 yard line but were called for interference  and the Senecas got the ball back. Greene and Watkins Glen exchanged punts and then Greene took over on their own 48 yard line. Five plays later Nate Whittaker threw a TD pass for 19 yards to Justin Van Wert for a 6-0 lead. Jake Wentlent scored the extra point and the score climbed to 8-0.  Greene scored 5 more touchdowns  with a 1 yard pass from Whittaker to Van Wert.   Two runs from Chris Engler and one each from Jake Wentlent and Garrett Hickey. The Trojans were 2 for 2 on extra point runs. Ben Adams caught an extra point pass  and Jason Hollings kicked 2 of 3 extra points. The line play was superb with Austin  Euchenhofer, D,J. Beckwith , Tyler Kehl, Grey Fahrenz and Chris Stagaman leading the way.  The defense held WG to under 100 yards total offense with Robert Sigona intercepting a pass in the endzone and returning it to mid-field. Numerous sacks   were accomplished  by a number of Greene defenders.
For the second week in a row all the Greene players saw considerable playing time and the team is showing steady improvement.   The Trojans face  a tough test next Saturday night at Trumansburg. The Blue Raiders made it to the Section IV playoffs last year and were pre-season picks to be contenders for the championship this year. T'burg has one loss in the Division  due to a forfeit @ Newark Valley for using and ineligible player.  The Saturday game should be a dandy.                              GO TROJANS!
The Junior Varsity Trojans dominated Unatego Saturday morning at home 52-6. We scored the first 5 times we had the ball. Scott Gorton threw 4 touchdown passes to Brendan Kinne, Dan Jenks and Kevin Gilroy. Dan Jenks and Kurtis Shear added numerous rushing touchdowns with scores on the first 7 possessions of the day. Nic Puglisi,Evan Engler, Alex Kenyon, James Church and Ryan Connelly lead the charges up front. It was our most impressive performance of the year both offensively and defensively. The team is 5-0 heading to Sidney on Saturday.
                                      Go TROJANS!

9/21/2007   Week 4     Greene 44    Newark Valley  6

The Trojans had a big offensive night and forced eight turnovers to dominate Newark Valley 44-6.  Nate Whittaker opened the scoring with a 65 yard punt return with Jake Wentlent  running it for the extra point making the score 8-0.  On the second offense series for Newark Valley , Nate Whittaker intercepted  a pass on the 41 yard line. Newark Valley came up big and stopped the Trojans  on the 8 yard line. On the next position , Nate Whittaker intercepted a second  pass  and then Dan Carlin ran a counter play for  a 60 yard TD. Chris Engler scored  the PAT  and it was 16-0 at the end of the first quarter. Newark Valley was stopped on a fourth down attempt  at the 45 yard line by Tyler Kehl , who  had an outstanding defensive game.  Later in the quarter, Dan Carlin picked up a NV fumble and Nate Whittaker hit Ben Adams for a 20 yard TD pass.  Chris Engler added the extra point to make  the score  24-0  at half.
Jake Wentlent behind DJ Beckwith and Tyler Kehl ran 51 yards for the 4th  TD and Chris Engler added the extra point to make it 32- 0.  Garrett Hickey and Jake Wentlent each scored in the 4th quarter and NV added a passing TD .
All the players had an opportunity to play and it  was a true team effort that made the difference.  The Trojans are now 2-1 in the Division and 3-1 overall. They travel to Watkins Glen on Friday night to play another divisionl foe.
The JV Trojans beat Delhi 32-12 on Saturday morning. Scott Gorton threw for 4 touchdowns with Brendan Kinne catching one and Kevin Gilroy  scoring twice. The undefeated Trojans entertain Unatego on Saturday morning  @ 10:00 am

                                          GO TROJANS!

9/17/2007    Week 3   Greene   16  Norwich  15

The Greene Trojans  for the first time in history played the Norwich Purple Tornado which is just 25 miles north of Greene on Route 12.   Being so close in miles , one would think that this rivalry would exist for many years but it has not. Probably because Norwich is a "B" school with approximately 125 more students in grades 9 through 11 than Greene but Saturday night's game  was a great one.
There were a number of turnovers from both teams and Greene got on the scoreboard first with a 36 yard touchdown pass from Nate Whittaker to Justin Van Wert. Jake Wentlent scored the PAT with excellent line blocking from Tyler Kehl, D.J. Beckwith and Austin Euchenhofer. The Purple Tornado came right back and Mike Moon scoring from 5 yards out with Andrew Austin catching the PAT from Nate Foote to tie the game @ 8. The score was tied at half.
Norwich scored first in the 3rd quarter with another short pass and they kicked the extra point to make it 15-8. On the ensuing kickoff , Jake Wentlent returned it to the Norwich 18 yard line after the first KO went out of bounds. Coach  Tim Paske made a very key strategic decision after Norwich kicked the ball out of bounds for the Trojans could have had the ball on the 35 yard line. He decided to have them kick again and Jake ,with some outstanding blocking returned the kick to the 18. The first play Nate Whittaker threw a strike to Dan Carlin for the touchdown . After some deliberation with Coach Tim and Jeff Paske , they decided to throw again and Nate and Justin connected for the winning points to make it 16-15. The offensive line was superb for Norwich put heavy pressure on the quarterback but  Tyler Kehl, D.J. Beckwith , Austin Eucnhofer, Chris Stagaman-Mundy and Grey Fahrenz  protected Nate so he was able to complete the pass.
The game did not end here, for the Trojans  stopped Norwich twice in the red zone to preserve the win . The final stop was on the 2 yard line with Mike Moon going off tackle with a lead blocker to get to the endzone but Chris Engler, D.J. Beckwith and Justin Van Wert prevented him from  crossing the goal line.  The final drama came as Greene was forced to punt , Norwich fair caught the ball on the 28 yard line and attempted a 45 yard free kick that fell short and Greene took a knee to end the game. What a finish! Dan Carlin was superb on both sides of the ball catching 2 passes for 20 yards and ran 4 times  for 51 yards and  made numerous  key tackles. Nate Whittaker threw for  74 yards and ran for another 14.  The Greene Trojans played  a solid opponent and throughout the game played with enthusiasm, desire and a  strong team togetherness. We hope this continues as the remainder of our games are against Divisional foes. We must win in order to make the play-offs.
                                          GO TROJANS!

The JV team beat Norwich  44-8. Dan Jenks rushed for 2 TD's and Booker Davis, Brian Dey and Nick Wilcox added rushing TD's. Scott Gorton threw a TD pass to Brendan Kinne and the offense accumulated over 450 yards total offense. Big blocks from Nic Puglisi, Evan Engler, Alex Kenyon, James Church and Ryan Connelly opened huge holes for the backs. The defense was stellar allowing one TD in the first half .  The JV's are 3-0  traveling to Delhi Saturday morning.
                                            GO TROJANS!

9/10/2007   Week 2   Greene 8  Unatego 26

The  Trojans ran into a buzz saw @ Unatego Friday night and lost 8-26. The offense took the opening kickoff and marched down to the 29 yard line but the drive stalled with a questionable holding call and Unatego intercepted  a Nate Whittaker pass returning it 40 yards to the Greene 25 yard line. QB Kyle Palmer ran it in for Unatego's first touchdown.  The Trojans were unable to move the ball consistently and the Spartans scored again at the end of the first quarter on a trick play with a  direct snap to a running back  lined up behind 5 linemen set 10 yards from  the center  and Unatego made it 13-0.  They scored again twice in the 3rd quarter and the Trojans never really recovered.  Greene  never gave up and Jake Wentlent scored on a 25 yard run in the fourth quarter . Nate Whittaker  completed 6 passes for 43 yards and ran for another 41 yards. Unatego played well and took advantage of our mistakes. They are  an experienced football team  and executed both offensely and defensely with percision.  Coach Tim Paske feels we need to go back to basics and  develop a consistency with our offense  and tackle and read our keys better on defense. Hopefully we will get back on the winning track and possibly face Unatego again in the play-offs.  Our next game is Saturday September 15 @ Norwich , a strong  Class "B" team that is 2-0.  Greene has not played Norwich in recent years and we will  play  the first game on their new synthetic turf field. It will be a real challenge for the Trojans but we expect  improvement over last week  and  work to show a consistent effort throughout the game. See you there Saturday night.
The Junior Varsity continue their winning ways with a 20-0 victory over a Walton team that has won 18 games in a row.  Once again , Scott Gorton and Booker Davis played well. The Trojans defense stopped Walton twice inside the 10 yard line to prevent them from scoring. It was an outstanding team effort on both sides of the ball. The JV's have Norwich @ home Saturday morning @ 10:00am

                                         GO TROJANS!

9/6/2007           Week 1   Greene 28  Sidney 8

Junior Quarterback Nate Whittaker ran for a TD and threw for 2 more as Greene upset defending 2 year Section IV champion Sidney  28-8. The Trojans held Sidney to 67 yards total offense and their only score came on a KO return in the 2nd quarter.  The defense was lead by Captain D.J. Beckwith and Captain Luke Wentlent.  Justin Van Wert and Nate Whittaker played well in the secondary  with Nate making an interception to stop a Sidney drive and Justin making a number of key tackles on fourth downs. Junior Garrett Hickey rushed for 133 yards on 18 carries and score a 1 yard touchdown.  Justin Van Wert  caught 2 touchdown passes from Nate Whittaker. The offensive line lead by Tyler Kehl, DJ Beckwith , Tyler Beckwith , Chris Stagaman-Mundy and Austin Euchenhofer were outstanding.  Next game is Friday September 7 @ Unatego  @ 7:00pm who also won there first game by beating Oneonta  21-6.
The JV 's beat Unadilla Valley 42-0 on Saturday  with Booker Davis, Kurtis Shear and Dan Jenks scoring rushing TD's and Scott Gorton throwing for 2 TD's to Brendan Kinne. The defense only allowed 2 first downs for the game  and played excellent team defense. Next game is Saturday September 8 vs. Walton @ home at 10:00am.

8/29/2007       TROJAN FOOTBALL 2007

The Greene Trojans started practice on August 13 and have had double sessions for 11 days culminating with a scrimmage on Saturday August 25  with CV, Hancock , Seton and Deposit. Each team had 12 offense and 12 defensive plays against each other . The temperatures were in the 90's so many water breaks were provided and a number of players suffered some signs of heat exhaustion. All in all it was a good morning with many opportunities for teams to see how they have progressed through camp. The Greene Football Booster Club supplied refreshments for the players at the conclusion of the scrimmage which were well received. Thanks, Booster Club , for your generosity and hard work.
The Trojans have 24 student-athletes on their roster with 10 having Varsity experience.  Coach Tim Paske and the entire coaching staff are pleased with the progress being made  and feel that  "we have enough players with desire and talent to make a run at another Division championship."  The opening game this Friday is home against Sidney, a perennial section IV champion and State Champion in 2005. It will be a real challenge for the Trojans and we will see if we can be competitive with one of the better teams in the State.
It is early to tell who will be the outstanding performers for us this year but we do know that the chemistry with the team and desire to improve and respond to coaching is  at a high level. Nate Whittaker will take the reins as the QB with
Jake Wentlent, Chris Engler , Dan Carlin  and Garrett Hickey getting time as running backs. The receiver corp is manned by Justin Van Wert, Ben Adams and Robert Sigona.
Other young players will get opportunities to get on the field and show their talent. The line will be lead by three year starter D.J. Beckwith and last year starter Tyler Kehl with help from Tyler Beckwith, Chris Stagaman, Jason Hollings and Austin Euchenhofer. Their will be younger players getting opportunities to play and be contributors.
Defensively, all of the above, will be playing and factoring in as we try and shut down the opposing offenses.
The schedule is a difficult one : with Division  games at home with  Sidney, Newark Valley, Lansing and Tioga  and Division away games with Unatego, Watkins Glen and Trumansburg. The one non-league game is @ Norwich a "B" Class school.  There is a new alignment with Class "C" this year with 8 teams all playing each other and the top 4  going to the play-offs on October 26.   Just a great competitive opportunity for our Greene Trojans. Come out and support us, it will be fun to watch.   GO TROJANS!

WEEK 9     Greene  0     Lansing  14     10/28/2006

People who attended the game Saturday night saw one of the most outstanding High School games in a number of years.  Greene did everything except score points after having 3 opportunities in the red zone in the first half . After stopping Lansing on the first series and forcing them to punt, Greene kept the the ball for 15 plays and moved the ball down to the 14 yard line. At that time we got called for a questionable procedure penalty and did not get the first down, so Lansing took over. We stopped them again , a team that was averaging over 39 points a game in 8 wins, at the 42 yard line . 10 plays later we had a 4th and 3 on the 14 and could not convert. Keith Savory ran for over 100 yards in the first half alone. On Lansing's third possession , we forced them again to punt and we took over on the 29 yard line. Keith Savory behind the Kehl brothers, DJ Beckwith , Justin Smith and Jesse Mares ran for 31 yards to the Lansing 40 . Keith scored from 13 yards out but we were called for holding and the TD was taken  away and the half ended 0-0.
The second half opened with Nate Whittaker returning the kick-off to mid field and after gaining 2 first downs we fumbled the ball and Lansing recovered. We forced another Lansing punt and fumbled again after gaining one first down and we stopped Lansing again on downs on the 15 yard line.  We gained another first down but Lansing picked off a pass and scored their first touchdown on a 5 yard run with 10:05 left in the game. After the kickoff, we gained two first downs but had to punt for the first time after a big loss while attempting to pass.  Lansing moved down the field and scored again, after an interference call with 2:44 left in the game.  We closed out the game on downs trying to throw and score but could not.  Lansing was a  very good football team.  We had chances , could not capitalize and as Coach Paske said  " we shot ourselves in the foot too many times."
I do not feel Lansing beat us as much as we beat ourselves by not making the big plays when we needed to.
Overall, the season was outstanding with 7 wins 2 losses and a share of the Dividion V championship. I am very proud of our players and the effort they put in all year.   Thank you, parents, relatives and friends for all your support.  It  was a pleasure being part of this program.  The Varsity and JV banquet is November 12.       GO  TROJANS!

WEEK 8    Greene  52    Seton Catholic Central 6    10/21/2006

The Greene Trojans closed out the regular season with a Division win against  Seton 52-6 to clinch a Division V co -championship.  Unatego upset Sidney on Saturday night 16-12 so Greene , Sidney and Unatego all share the Division V championship with 3-1 records.  Due to the 3 way tie, the top two teams go to the play-offs and based on a special point system based on wins and who you beat,  Sidney is the #1 seed and Greene the #2.  Therefore on Saturday October 28 ,  Greene will play Lansing @ Binghamton Alumni Field @ 7:00pm  with the winner playing the winner of the Sidney- Trumansburg game @ U-E Stadium on Saturday November 4 @ 1:00pm for Section IV Class C championship. What an outstanding accomplishment for the Greene Trojans  who were huge underdogs  throughout the season. This is the first Division championship for Greene since 1969. Congratulations to all the team members and coaching staff.
On Saturday night, Greene scored the first 4 times that had the ball. They blocked 3 punts ,one a safety and the other two leading to touchdowns. QB Corey Breck had another outstanding game , along with team leader Keith Savory, John Carlin , Cameron Daniels  and Nate Whittaker.
Corey Breck threw 3 touchdown passes , one to Will Bennett and two to John Carlin .  Keith Savory ran for a TD from 2 yards out and gained over 100 yards rushing  and Nate Whittaker ran for three touchdowns,  of  63 yards , 30 yards and 5 yards. All of these touchdowns were made possible by outstanding line blocking from Tyler and Mike Kehl, Jesse Mares, Justin and Jesse Smith, D.J. Beckwith and D.J. Micha. The whole defensive unit was superb lead by Savory , Micha, Chris Engler , Daniels, Beckwith, Jake Wentlent and Adam Bringham. Once again the entire team saw  considerable playing time which shows the overall strength of the Greene Football program.  A HUGH WEEK coming up with our first play-off game since 2000.  GO TROJANS!
The JV Trojans played the undefeated Walton JV's on Thursday and lost for the first time 6-14. Greene scored first but Walton came back to win the game in a heavy rainstorm. Garrett Hickey scored the lone Greene TD on a nice 15 yard run and Kyle Petkash and Tyler Beckwith were outstanding on defense to shut down the highly expolsive Walton offense who was averaging over 30 points a game. Coach Gorton felt that if the rain had not been so severe our passing game would have given Walton some problems.  The JV's close out their season @ Delhi Saturday morning at 10:00am

WEEK 7     Greene  43   Unadilla Valley 0     10/13/2006

The Trojans(6-1, 2-1) scored on each of their first four possessions and held the Storm to 6 total yards and no first downs in the first half of the non-divisional contest. John Carlin caught two touchdown passes  from Corey Breck of 14 and 28 yards. Chris Engler(8 yard TD run ), Keith Savory (37 yard TD run ), Will Bennett(15 yard TD run)and David Yeager ( 34 yard TD run ) all particpated in the scoring. Corey Breck kicked 3 extra points, ran for one and passed for another.  Corey had another solid performance at the quarterback position and John Carlin played his best game of year, with 4 receptions , an outstanding punt return and an interception and return. Coach Paske said " Defensively we played very well and our offensive line was able to open a lot of holes. Our effort allowed everyone to play alot of minutes and our practice preparation and conditioning payed off."
The Trojans travel to Binghamton Alumni Field to play on artificial turf against Division foe Seton Catholic at 7:00pm on Saturday October 21.  A win is a must to keep the play-off chances alive. Unatego travels to Sidney to play Friday night with the outcome having a hugh bearing on the play-off picture. In the other Division it looks like Lansing is Number 1 and Trumansburg  is Number 2. If Sidney and  Greene win this weekend then Greene will play Lansing and Trumansburg will play Sidney next weekend at Alumni Field. Stay tuned and I will let you know the schedule as soon as I know.   GO TROJANS!
The JV Football Team defeated Seton 58-6 last Thursday night. Scott Groton threw two first period TD passes to Brendan Kinne, and Kinne returned an interception 100 yards for  a touchdown. Corey Breck had his best passing game of the year completing 6 of 13 for 145 yards with John Carlin catching 3 for 53 yards.  The offensive line protected the passer very well and made adequate holes for the backs to run through.  The defense was lead by Jake Wentlent , Wil Bennett , Chris Engler and Keith Savory who all had double figures in tackles.

The JV Trojans tied Unadilla Valley on Saturday morning 20-20. 8/28/2006

Welcome Greene supporters and fans to the 2006 football season. The Varsity and JV  teams have been practicing twice a day since August 14 and are progressing well. Our numbers of athletes  in the program is solid and we look forward to a productive and successful year.  Our Varsity  coaching staff is intact from last year with Tim Paske as the head coach, starting his 4th year  with 8 years in the program. Brother Jeff Paske  is the offensive coordinator; Kevin Clapper,  the veteran line coach ; Greg Mills as the backfield coach and  myself as a volunteer assistant helping in all areas of the game.  Our JV staff has a couple of changes. Dave Gorton  is back as the head coach , Rick Smith is one of the assistants along with Ben Eggleston

Both of the teams had a successful camp culminating with a scrimmage Saturday August 26 at home. We would like to thank the Booster Club for the concession stand goodies and the support they have given the teams thus far. We had an enjoyable pot-luck picnic with players and families on Friday August 25  where we had an opportunity to visit and share our expectations and meet the  new players and their families.  Coach Paske emphasizes the "family atmosphere " of our program and this a sample of that  belief.

We scrimmaged Deposit, Hancock , Seton Catholic Central, Chenango Valley, and Bainbridge -Guiford.  We  did not play against SCC for we will play them  in October.  There was no score kept and we had 12 offensive and 12 defensive plays against each of the teams. It was a fruitful experience and very helpful to coaches and players as we prepare  for the season opener on Saturday.

Both teams open with Oxford on Saturday September 2.  JV's at home @ 10:00am and the Varsity  away @ 7:00pm. We hope to see many Greene fans at these contests.

Our Varsity Division has changed with Delhi going to class "D" . This year the top two teams in the two  Class "C" divisions go the playoffs staring October 27 weekend.  Our Division V is Harpursville, Seton CC, Sidney and Unatego.  The other "C" Division VI  is Lansing, Trumansburg,Watkins Glen, Tioga,Edison, Newark Valley and Spencer-VanEtten.

I will have weekly updates as the season goes on . I hope you enjoy the information. There will also be a Coaches Comment section in the program at home games this Fall along with pictures.  This column is composed of information from the Football Coaching Staff of the Greene Trojans.
